West Haven Youth Hockey is excited to welcome some new coaching faces to our U16/U18 midget program for the 2023.2024 hockey season.
Kevin Blake will take on the role as our U16/U18 Coaching Coordinator for West Haven Youth Hockey for the 2023.2024 hockey season. An integral part of the coaching staff for the past several years, most notably at the U14 Bantam level, Coach Blake’s role will consist of building our coaching staff’s hockey knowledge through professional development with the guidance of several collegiate coaches around New England. He will work alongside our Director of Hockey Operations and our youth coaches to continuously look for ways to improve our practice protocols.
West Haven Youth Hockey is happy to welcome back alumni Zach White to the organization as our Director of Skills and Player Development and Assistant Coach for the U16 National bound West Haven Blue Devils. As a highly recognized hockey player around New England, Zach comes back to West Haven off another successful hockey season with the Iowa Heartlanders of the ECHL. His experience at the youth, high school, college and amateur/professional levels will benefit the players and coaches tremendously at West Haven Youth Hockey as we move into the 2023-2024 hockey season.
West Haven Youth Hockey is also excited to welcome Mr. Jared Wentworth to its coaching ranks as the U16 National bound Midget Head Coach. A 2011 All-SCC hockey player in his senior year at North Haven High School, Coach Wentworth then attended Western Connecticut State University playing collegiate hockey in the ACHA from 2011-2014. While at WCSU, Jared racked up 33 points in 50 games played. Coach Wentworth is also the Associate Head Coach for the Southern Connecticut State University Owls men’s club hockey team and is employed by the City of West Haven. West Haven Youth Hockey welcomes Coach Wentworth to our program.
Mr. Justin Wentworth will also be working as a U16 coach for West Haven Youth Hockey. A graduate of North Haven High School, Justin played hockey for the Nighthawks (formerly the Indians) winning the Division II state championship by scoring the game winning goal in 2004. Justin went on to study mathematics at Western Connecticut State University where he earned his bachelor’s degree then on to the University of New Haven where he earned his M.Ed in 2012. Justin is in his first year teaching mathematics at West Haven High School. West Haven Youth Hockey welcomes Justin to its coaching ranks for the 2023.2024 hockey season.
Mr. John Miller will head up the West Haven Youth Hockey U18 midget hockey team. John has coached at every level during his time with West Haven Youth Hockey, from Learn to Skate to Midgets. Coach Miller was the recipient of the Bill Norton Coach of the Year Award for the 2015-2016 hockey season at WHYH. He also coached for Team Doritos from 2016-2021 at Wonderland of Ice in Bridgeport.
As a former D-III hockey player at Roger Williams College in Rhode Island and bronze medal winner at the 2010 Police/Fire Department World Games, Coach Miller demands accountability and teamwork from his players. West Haven Youth Hockey welcomes back Coach Miller for another season at Bennett Rink.
