2022-2023 Season

If you or your child are excited to try hockey but aren't sure how to get started, you have come to the right place!

West Haven Youth Hockey has been a premier developer of hockey players in southern Connecticut since 1969, helping new players start hockey is one of our main priorities!

Additionally, you also get the chance to skate at one of Connecticut's most iconic skating facilities and winner of the CT Coaches Survey 2021 - Best Place to Play, Best Place to Watch. Bennett Rink!!

Here is a quick look at our Learn To Play with links to more information on getting involved:

FAQs: My child has never played hockey before. Is Learn to Play the place to start?

Yes, for first time hockey players, Learn to Play Hockey in West Haven is the best place to start. Some skating ability would be beneficial. The ability to skate the length of the ice unassisted is necessary. Modeled after the American Development Model from USA hockey, first time players learn to build skating and hockey skills while being part of a fun and encouraging environment.

FAQs: How are skaters grouped during Learn to Play?

We place your child with skaters who show similar skating ability and skill. Generally, we create 4 to 6 groups of skaters with a maximum of 15 per group. Each group will have a lead coach with up to 2 other volunteers to keep the skaters moving and engaged. Putting your child in the appropriate skills-based group is imperative for the continued growth of your child. Age-appropriate training will prepare your player and get them ready for their next level of hockey.
